Alfredo Oliveira (he/him/his pronouns) is originally from Brazil. He became a United States citizen in 2019. Oliveira arrived in Minnesota through Rotary International Youth Exchange Program in 2006, which allowed him to understand not only the challenges and barriers that international students experience but also the advantages of receiving an extraordinary education and learning a new culture.
Currently, he is the Program Manager for the Honors Global Communities at the Univerity of Maryland (UMD). Previous to UMD, Oliveira was Residence Hall Director at New York University where he supervised professionals and paraprofessionals while working to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and accessibility for his team and residential students. He worked at the University of South Florida from 2016 to 2019 as a Residence Life Coordinator and Coordinator for Academic Initiatives. Alfredo was a student at St. Cloud State University (SCSU) where he earned a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration ('16) and at New York University, where he graduated with a second master's degree in Politics ('23). He has also earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in International Relations from SCSU. While at SCSU, his roles included: Resident Academic Success Coordinator (graduate assistant) in the Department of Residential Life, advisor for the Residence Hall Association (RHA) Social Justice Committee, resident assistant, Honors Program academic advisor, and admissions representative. He also worked as a project manager/consultant in the Admissions Office at St. Cloud Technical & Community College (SCTCC).
Oliveira graduated from SCTCC in 2010 and 2013, where he earned an A.A.S. in Sales and Management, and an A.S. in Business Management, respectively. While at SCTCC, Oliveira was the president of the St. Cloud Technical and Community College Student Senate from 2009 to 2010 and served as Student Senate Vice President from 2008 to 2009. He was also a member of the Assessment (Quality Crew) Committee, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and Collegiate DECA, where he received recognition for serving as Chapter Vice President.
In 2013, Oliveira moved to Washington, D.C. for his summer internship with U.S. Senator Al Franken. During the 2014 legislative session, he interned at the Minnesota Senate with Senator Patricia Torres Ray, who was the Chair of the Education Policy Committee. In summer of 2014, Alfredo went back to Washington, D.C. to be the Government Affairs summer intern for the Human Rights Campaign, the largest non-profit LGBT organization in the nation. He met his husband, Kristopher (Hawkins) Oliveira there.
Oliveira is a former member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees, where he served two terms. His long-term goals are to find a way into television. He loves being in front of the cameras and meeting people. He also enjoys going to Walt Disney World (and other Disney Parks and Resorts), traveling, reading, taking pictures, running, and going for walks with his dog, Scooby Doo, in his free time.
